Kongakut River
Raft The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Summary

Raft the Kongakut River through the last great prehistoric wilderness in North America. Travel with the spring migration of the Porcupine Caribou Herd. Hike under the midnight sun. Experience the Arctic in its most pristine environment.

The coastal plain you will be traveling through is so vast it redefines the concept of wilderness. Flowing out of the Brooks Range across the Coastal Plain to the sea is the Kongakut River, an artery of life through the heart of the Refuge. Each June, thousands of caribou gather in the greatest congregation of wildlife in North America. Grizzly bears, wolves, wolverines, foxes, Dall sheep and musk ox all roam freely. Only direct experience can fully explain the scale of this pristine wilderness.

When the Arctic sun comes out to play in the summer, it never goes to bed! The Kongakut River Rafting Expedition is a combination of both hiking and rafting adventures. The schedule on the Kongakut is leisurely since there is nearly continuous daylight, leaving plenty of time for fishing, hiking and photography. Come with us and experience the Arctic 's awesome wildness and solitude.
